Maia Ramishvili (Georgian, b. 1969) is a Tbilisi-born painter whose work brings together expressive figuration, saturated color, and a strong sense of movement. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Ramishvili creates paintings in which women, interiors, animals, flowers, and symbolic scenes appear both intimate and theatrical. Her figures often carry a quiet authority, while pattern, texture, and color give each composition its distinctive energy.
Ramishvili studied at the I. Nikoladze School of Art from 1984 to 1990 before entering the Painting Department at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where she graduated in 1996. Since then, she has pursued painting as a full-time practice. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections in Georgia, Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, Israel, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, and the United States.
Ramishvili paints directly on canvas without preliminary sketches, allowing each composition to develop through gesture, intuition, and color. This process gives her work a sense of immediacy, as if the image is unfolding in real time. Across portraits, still lifes, and symbolic compositions, her paintings return to themes of feminine presence, memory, performance, and inner life.
