Biography
Gogita Toidze (Georgian, b. 1968) is a Tbilisi-born painter whose work brings together symbolic imagery, expressive figuration, and a strong sense of scale. His paintings often treat the figure as part of a larger visual field, where gesture, color, and narrative atmosphere carry equal force.
Toidze studied at the Tbilisi I. Nikoladze Art School from 1983 to 1987 and later at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where he specialized in Monumental Painting from 1990 to 1995. That training informs the architecture of his compositions. The paintings are staged with a sense of weight and presence, even when their subjects appear intimate or allegorical.
Works including A Bird from the Garden of Eden, Fertility, and Fish Seller reflect Toidze’s interest in myth, abundance, labor, and human presence. His exhibition history includes presentations in Georgia and abroad, including Art Gallery Line in Tbilisi, Elite Gallery in Tbilisi, the Dulwich Art Fair in London, Art Ireland in Dublin, and exhibitions in Germany and the Netherlands.
